Cotton prices experienced a decline of 18 to 32 cents in the early trading session on Wednesday. However, futures rebounded with a notable boost, closing the previous session up by 66 to 99 points. In related markets, crude oil futures dropped by 9 cents per barrel, while the US dollar index increased by $0.503, reaching 99.900.
Recent data from the Weekly Crop Progress report indicated that only 5% of the US cotton crop has been planted this year. This figure falls short of the average pace of 8%, with states like Alabama, Arizona, Missouri, and Tennessee outpacing expectations. Texas, a major cotton-producing state, lagged behind, showing a planting rate that is 5 percentage points below average, standing at just 8%.
On April 14, The Seam reported a modest total of 863 bales sold for cash transactions, with an average sale price of 58.60 cents per pound. The Cotlook A Index dropped by 20 points to settle at 78.10 cents per pound on the same day. Additionally, ICE cotton stocks remained steady at a certified level of 14,478 bales. In the latest update from the USDA, the Adjusted World Price (AWP) decreased significantly by 212 points, now resting at 53.10 cents per pound.
In May 2025, cotton futures closed at 65.08, reflecting an increase of 99 points. July 2025 cotton futures ended the day at 66.12, marking a gain of 77 points, while December 2025 cotton futures reached 67.6, up by 66 points.
