Mixed Performance of Soybean Futures
Soybean futures are currently displaying varied trends. The July futures have dipped by 1.25 cents, while contracts for new crops are experiencing slight gains ranging from 2 to 4 cents. The current cash price for soybeans stands at $10.19 1/4, reflecting a decrease of 1.25 cents.
Meanwhile, soymeal futures have slipped by $7.70 per ton, influenced by recent announcements from the EPA that have not been favorable for this by-product. On the other hand, soy oil is taking the lead in market movements, rising by 398 points and employing the extended 450-point limits.
Export Inspections and Shipment Data
Recent data on export inspections indicates that soybean shipments totaled 215,803 metric tons (approximately 7.93 million bushels) during the week ending June 12. This figure marks a substantial decline of 61.4% compared to the previous week and is also 36.7% lower than the same week last year. Of the total shipments, 58,284 metric tons were destined for Germany, 46,091 metric tons for South Korea, and 41,147 metric tons for Mexico. Cumulatively, shipments for the marketing year now amount to 45.416 million metric tons (1.669 billion bushels), which represents an increase of 11.1% compared to the same week in the previous year.
NOPA Crushing Data Insights
The National Oilseed Processors Association (NOPA) has released data showing that members crushed a total of 192.83 million bushels of soybeans in May. Although this value fell short of estimates, it represents a record for the month, with an increase of 5.01% from last year and a 1.37% rise compared to April’s figures. Furthermore, soybean oil stocks have decreased by 10.02% from the previous month, now totaling 1.37 billion gallons, which is also 20.34% lower than the same time last year.
Commitment of Traders Report
The Commitment of Traders report from the CFTC, published on Friday afternoon, revealed a total addition of 17,038 contracts to the managed money net long position as of June 10. Following this update, the net long position reached 25,639 contracts by Tuesday.
